First you want to decide which hand you are going to grab the collar with. Before anything else grab his wrist or gi sleeve. From here put your knee up on the same side as your collar grip. When you put your knee up you want to get close to your opponent, but not too close. Your foot should be planted near your training partner’s knee but not inside his legs. Now you can sit down and use both your arms to pull your opponent into your closed guard.  Make sure to cross your legs in closed guard! If you leave them open you give your training partner the ability to easily pass your guard.
